I was recently in Amsterdam for a long weekend of culture, shopping and leisurely walks by the canals. For this trip, I needed natural, summery make-up looks – the Dutch are quite casual – and a solid skincare routine, as I can’t skip that. So it was all about the multitaskers! I travel a lot and never check in luggage when I go on holiday, so I had to fit all my beauty essentials in the little travel bag I got with my August Birchbox.
First up? Skincare! I exfoliated with Miracle Skin Transformer Hydroactive Microderm, which cleanses, minimises pores and brightens my skin for a triple whammy of goodness. I packed Dr Bragi Age Management Moisturiser to follow with – yes, it’s expensive, but it’s worth to me as it doesn’t cause my oily skin to break out and the hyaluronic acid instantly plumps my skin. I prefer to use something a little more mild around my eyes, so I used Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream at nighttime – another multi-tasker that softens, smooths and brightens. For some coverage and plenty of SPF, I finished with Supergoop! Daily Correct CC Cream – it feels light and I use it instead of foundation as it does both jobs in one!
Next, on to make-up! My trusted go-to eye product is Benefit’s They’re Real Mascara – it’s great for travel as it looks fabulous applied as one layer for daytime or multiple layers for the evening. Benefit’s Gimme Brow launched recently and I can’t live without it now – it’s super easy to apply and makes my eyebrows look thicker and defined, but still natural. I used MAC’s Pro Longwear Lipcolour in Perennial Rose on my lips some days – it lasts and can be topped it up for the evening. I also packed Laqa & Co.’s Fat Lip Pencil in Wolfman for a more summery finish for lips and cheeks. For evenings, I added Wild About Beauty’s Powder Eyeshadow in Aine.
I didn’t pack shampoo and conditioner, I used the hotel’s amenities – but afterwards, on UV-exposed hair, I used Number 4′s Super Comb Prep & Protect 000- which is also 100% paraben-free. After a spritz of Liaison de Parfum’s I Dare You for the risk-taker in me and a coat of Coola Body SPF 30 for my more sensible side, I was ready to go!
